Hello, dears! I wanted to get at least one more New Year’s post out. I’ve been thinking about goals and the concept of choosing one word to define your year. So I thought I’d share some of my thoughts here, with y’all.
new year
Hey, you guys!
I’m sure most of you know that I love reading. If you don’t, you know now! There’s nothing like curling up with a good novel, or learning from an author skilled in expository teaching. I read all the time, and I’m blessed to have a best friend who also loves reading. We both like the same types of books as well, but often end up reading different ones.
I love to read. When I say love, I mean I absolutely adore reading so much that if I had the time, I would probably read, eat, cook, and sing 24/7. That would be the best life. I have read so much history and historical fiction that if you ask me about a subject (say the Pilgrims for example) I will give you every single detail on it. I learn more through story-books than textbooks. Don’t get me wrong, I learn from textbooks, but I absorb more through story-book material. It’s like this; school is like broccoli (which I love, actually. Yes, I know I’m weird.). Textbooks are plain broccoli. Story-books are like broccoli with cheese sauce. Or soy sauce. (Or maple syrup…okay, maybe not.) Much easier to go down. When you read a historical fiction novel, you live in the time. You experience everything the main subject goes through. Textbooks are just like, well, “This is what happened. Memorize the dates and names. You’re done.”
Welcome to this new year of surprises. Of learning. Of new opportunities. Of things you will do that you have NEVER dreamt of. Of dreams that will come true. Two thousand and sixteen, I welcome you.
This past year was certainly a big year! I started voice lessons in July and preformed my first solo piece in October. I launched my blog on September eighth. In March, my great-grandfather turned 90 and we had a big birthday party, complete with cousins from TX. But, of course I missed it! I caught the only virus of the year (Go Elderberry Syrup!!) but of course I had to catch it at THAT time.
I’ve collected some of y’all’s favorite posts and some of mine. Enjoy looking back at some of this past year’s posts!
THE COLORS OF FALL
Last week, I published a short survey for y’all to take. And if you did take it, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It was so helpful and I’m going to make some changes around here according to what y’all said.
