You know that friend who picks thorns out of your feet for you, is ready to catch you when you’re standing on a wobbly fence, and carries a cat out of your portraits even though she’s scared of cats? The friend who emails you just to tell you how much she appreciates you, and who smiles and supports you when you raise a hair-brained idea? That’s Sam. She’s the friend who says yes to you rag-curling her hair at 9:30 at night, and sings soprano to your tenor/baritone counterpart. Maybe you haven’t had these exact experiences (they’re pretty unique), but you know who I’m talking about. Everyone has that friend, and if they don’t, they need one like Sam. It’s those friends who end up in your bridal party; those friends who last for life.
A few days ago, I had the chance to photograph this lovely girl! We went for a country-ish vibe and I think it’s just so cute with the fall colors. The leaves are just starting to change, and although the temperatures are still in the 80s around here, it’s starting to look like fall! Hannah was so so easy to photograph and is so beautiful with her red hair and eyes! We had tons of fun walking around at my favorite country/farm setting in Mills River, NC. And that vintage guitar! So pretty. I’m looking forward to getting more photoshoots with autumn colors as we approach this wonderful season!
This girl and I have been friends for a loooong time! We both sing in the same choir that gathers at a church in Asheville with beautiful flowering trees. A year ago, I asked her if I could take her pictures and she happily complied. We first wanted to get some golden-hour pictures on a farm in Mills River, but the day we had chosen turned out cloudy! However, we did end up getting some good pictures! Caroline has such an energetic, happy personality and is so much fun to be around – not to mention photograph! I think onlookers would have giggled to see us suddenly burst out into laughter or launch into “Singin’ in the Rain” when I brought out one of my props, a green umbrella.
After doing Hannah’s pictures, her friend Joanna from Greenville contacted me. I knew right off that Joanna, who told me she played basketball and volleyball, would be perfect for an urban background. She was game for the idea, so I started doing some scouting. Years before, we had lived in Biltmore Park, a rather large community in South Asheville with residential homes, stores, and restaurants.
First, isn’t this girl just gorgeous!? Miss Hannah and I have been good friends for a long time – ever since I was eleven years old, in fact! When I first got my dSLR, Hannah wasn’t even a senior yet, and even so, I begged her to let me do her senior portraits. This fall we finally got to do them! Hannah and I went to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC to get a great nature background – plus, her family has a pass 😉
