2020 Goals and Expectations

aria-lisette-1-7

2019 was the most life-changing year I’ve ever had. Guess what? 2020 is going to change my life even more.

Looking back, if you told me what was going to happen in 2019, I don’t think I would have been too terribly surprised, because I think of pretty much everything. XD I’d considered the possibilities, but that’s just what they were. Possibilities. I had no idea what the future would bring. 2019 started out with the future being very much up in the air. 2020? 2020 has a lot of unknowns, but I know far more about it than I did about 2019. I am looking forward to so much this year.

Lord willing, in 2020, my dreams are going to come true. Isn’t that a strange phrase? It is odd to me to actually have my dreams come true. All my life, my dreams have simply been dreams, far-off distant fantasies that are delightful to think about and pine over but in reality, would never happen. At least, that’s what I thought. Not in actuality, it’s just my brain didn’t register that I was actually going to grow up one day.

What do you want to be when you grow up? A wife and a mom. Well, this year, I’m going to be a wife. Does that mean I’ve grown up? I don’t know – it doesn’t feel like it. But I think I’ll write about that some other time.

Today, I’m going to write down the dreams and plans I have for 2020. Because I like to look back at the end of the year and see what actually happened. I actually did pretty well with 2019’s goals. My goals were:

  • Read through the Bible chronologically
  • Shoot 20 photo sessions
  • Make some local friends
  • Save enough money for a car
  • Start, finish, and publish The Watermelon Club
  • Get strong
  • Take some classes

So I achieved more than half of them. Saving money for a car and TWC were ambitious goals that I didn’t complete, but that’s okay. Let’s look at next year!

January: See Andrew, plan the wedding, work on building the new website, photograph an engagement shoot.
February: See Andrew, plan the wedding. 😀
March: Hopefully go visit Andrew in MO! And get my driver’s license.
April: See Andrew. :) Also attend bridal shower! And photograph a senior shoot. AND engagement photos (that will double as branding for our new website!!)
May:
GET MARRIED. (Our date is May 31st!)
June: Go on the honeymoon, move, and set up housekeeping!
July: Start working on growing Aria Lewis Photography in MO.
August:
September:
October: Shoot two weddings in Asheville.
November: Go to my parents’ for Thanksgiving
December: Spend Christmas with Andrew’s family, and vacation in Amelia Island with mine.

There’s something on the books for 10 out of 12 months! We are going to have a busy year. And these are just the things that are planned! There are a lot of things that we haven’t planned that WILL happen, and a lot of things we haven’t planned that COULD happen. (Like guys – this time next year, I could be pregnant. *gasp* NOT planning on it, but that’s a possibility!) But, we also have things we need to do like, buy a camera and train Andrew because he’s going to be my second-shooter for the October weddings (and always).

This year, I’m using the Cultivate What Matters planner! I splurged when they released the 2020 planners and I am so excited to use it this year! The CWM planning system encourages women to look at the big picture and what they want their legacy to be and then make practical goals based off of that. The themes for this year for me are contentment, joy, relationships, practical homemaking, and business. This year, so many things are going to be new for me, and therefore for the first two quarters of the year I’m going to wait to set more specific homemaking goals. With CWM, you can go and change your goals later or add new ones, and there’s a recap every quarter! That’s going to be really motivating for me. Also, each goal has you brainstorm baby steps to get you going.

The goals I’m going to start with are thus:

Invest in my friendships

  • This year with so many changes and busyness, I really want to make sure I’m still making time for the people God had put into my life! He has taught me so much about friendships especially last year, and I want to make sure that my friendships are still a priority, even when most of my priorities and my whole life changes.

Relaunch the business

  • Eeeep, I’m super excited but also slightly nervous about this one! I’m excited to move to MO and almost start over from scratch with all the training and experience I have, but also just be seen differently in a new community. I know people will see and think of me so much differently as I will be a wife, not just a stay-at-home daughter who they don’t know if she’s in high school or college. I think that having that basis, that they’ll take me more seriously from a professional basis as well, if that makes sense. I’m going to have to work hard to gain traction and get things started, but I’m excited to rebrand to Aria Lewis Photography and pretty much gain a new start where I can do everything perfectly from the beginning (or near perfectly!).

Grow intentionally

  • In the middle of the craziness, I never want to stop growing. I never want to stop marveling at God’s immeasurable grace. There are many areas I want to grow, spiritually as always, but also I’m going to be married! And I know there is going to be so much room for growth as I navigate these coming months! Growth in learning how to live with Andrew (not that I assume he’s hard to live with, but eheh, that’s going to be new to say the least XD) and become a homemaker. Lots of room for growth.

Become fit and healthy

  • I am REALLY out of shape. XD So while I’m not necessarily unhealthy, I definitely want to get stronger and more fit (and lose my puffy stomach) before I get married (and keep it that way afterward!). Especially since Andrew and I are going to do some hiking on our honeymoon! I don’t want to be an out-of-breath decrepit old horse (so glamorous!). XD Besides, being fit just makes me feel good!

And that’s about it for my goals right now! I’m definitely starting in slow, but I imagine I’ll have more as the year goes on!

What are your goals for the year? What do you expect to be the highlight of 2020 for you?
