Y’all, summer is going by WAY. TOO. FAST. I can’t handle it. Why did summer have to be so short? For us, it’s been a busy season, and a wet season. Unfortunately, it’s rained just a little TOO much. But yet, we still enjoy a bounty of good food – fruit from our orchard, apples and peaches, and veggies from the garden. Beets, onions, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, and watermelon.
August is always the one last push. Lima beans come on, bringing with them long, hot days of picking, and apples ripen on the trees. Each month brings with it different crops, different work. We’re nearing the end of the growing season, and I don’t like to see the plants die. Soon, there won’t be much work to do in the mornings, anymore.
However, there’s still plenty of work to be done, and plants to be harvested. There’s nothing quite like picking a vegetable in the morning and eating it for dinner that evening. There’s also nothing like eating cold watermelon, only a few hours after picking it. Our fresh food is so good, and I wish we could eat it year-round.
Several times, I’ve whipped out my iPhone to take pictures of a new harvest. Beets one day, peaches the next. Sometimes I bring down my camera. Anyway, below are some of my favorite snaps I’ve gotten in the last few weeks of the farm produce. Enjoy.
