Around the Farm, IV | Beware: Baby Bunnies

Hey, guys! So it’s been a while since I did an “around the farm” post. I figured it was time for another!

It’s been really, really dry, so when Richard, our farmhand, uses the leaf-blower,  there are clouds of dust. I certainly hope we get rain soon, because it’s so dry it’s dangerous for fires. In fact, our county has a burning ban right now. The weather reminds me of Irving Berlin’s Blue Skies. (Blue skies, smilin’ at me….nothin’ but blue skies, do I see 😉 only today it was gray skies so I guess that doesn’t really work)

This is our spring, which has been here for a really long time – it was here when we bought the property, so I’m not sure how long. It’s all dried up :(

But we have a run-off from the nearby river, so we still have some water on the property plus our wells.

Oh yes and this is a glimpse at our driveway. It’s incredibly steep.

And now…for the moment you all have been waiting for….

BABY BUNNIES!

Okay, I realize that these really aren’t all that little anymore. They’ve grown. Y’see, they were born a while ago. I’m not sure how long. (I’m really failing this farm girl thing) I absolutely REFUSED to look at them because I thought we were going to eat them. I mean, not as babies, but when they grew up and got big and fat. We bred the rabbits for meat anyway, so why SHOULDN’T we eat them? I LOVE rabbit meat! But no. All the cousins had to look at them and decide that they were cute. Cute bunnies: no meat. I mean like, how disappointing is that? Very. Very disappointing I tell you.

But they are kind of cute, now that we aren’t eating them 😉

There are seven. We haven’t named them, because we were going to eat them, but even after we decided (What’s with the “we”, ARIA? It certainly wasn’t MY decision.) that we wouldn’t, we still didn’t name them. So they are unnamed rabbits.

I recently got Photoshop and Lightroom for picture-editing, and I really like them! Photoshop is a little confusing and complicated, but I’m learning. And Lightroom is a breeze.

So. What do you think of our new baby bunnies? Have you ever eaten rabbit?

I love “Around the Farm” posts! 😀 Wow, I really hope you get some rain soon. O.o
Aww, cuties! 😀 They look like my brother’s rabbit, Olaf (only a LOT smaller XD ). Poor bunnies – they don’t even have a name. :( Ha ha, just kidding! I loved the pictures where they were eating leaves and hay. 😉

I’m so glad you do, Allison! :) Yeah me too…there’s a big wildfire not to far east of us (it has already moved into our county) and it’s not going to be good if we don’t get rain soon…
Haha! Well, we considered naming them Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner before we decided not to eat them 😉 Thanks!

Cute “bunnies”, Aria! These pictures make me miss ours just a little. :) Since most of our rabbits ended up in the freezer, I did have the opportunity to try some. To be honest, I didn’t really enjoy it, but maybe it was just due to the way it was prepared. Anyway, great pics!
P.S. I love your beret! I’m sure you’ll get plenty of opportunities to wear it this winter if the weather continues to be as cold as it is this week-end.

Oh right, I remember you guys do rabbits! When my mom made rabbit, she did it in the crockpot with dijon and white wine and it was really good. There are a lot of good recipes out there, though.
      Thanks!
P.S. You bet! I’ve already been wearing it a lot. I just love hats :)
