It’s been so long since I’ve posted a recipe. The fact is, I’ve been so busy (school, y’all) and garden and other stuff has been occupying my Saturdays instead of baking/cooking/creating masterpieces in the kitchen. But, I put it on my list to make two recipes this June. I also have a food post planned for July as well! So hopefully I’ll get back on track.
My aunt first found this recipe, made it, and then my mom ate one of these cookies. She stole the recipe, made it millions of times, and then forgot about it. It’s a shame because these are really quite tasty and HEALTHY too! They call for a bunch of ingredients you may not have just lying around (like cacao nibs and hemp seeds) but they’re worth the bit of work to get them.
By the way, it’s been so hot here in the south – and I’m not even living in the Deep South, like Texas and Florida! Where I live it has been in the low nineties – and that is HOT! We don’t keep the air conditioning on either – but our house has great circulation and tile floors, so it’s not as hot as a cabin would be. However, all the doors are open and the windows and everything that upstairs, the temperature is the same as outside. When I styled these cookies for their photoshoot, they near fell apart because of the heat!
Thankfully, the downstairs, although not air conditioned, remains cooler than the upstairs. It’s great, because on ninety-degree days I prefer to sit on my bed and read rather than swelter outside. Actually, that’s what I’m doing right now – only I’m typing instead of reading. And I’m listening to forties’ music. Oh, beautiful forties’ music. A little Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong anyone?
Well, as you can see, I’m getting sidetracked. So I’d better go ahead and give you the recipe. Enjoy!
