Blogging ruts are pretty common. They can also be called a writing block. It happens when you’re staring at your screen and you don’t know what to post. And it can be hard to get out of them. Here are my best tips on getting out of a blogging rut.
Take a break.
One of the best things you can do when your brain is drained is just to simply, take a break. I don’t mean to take a year off from posting, but maybe take that weekend and go on a hike. Take a nap. Read a book. Do something that takes your mind off of blogging. You can detoxify from all electronics or just your computer, but I suggest that you shut down your laptop, go outside, and don’t come back until Monday. I promise that you will feel so ready to come back.
When I’m feeling a bit drained of post ideas, I look for inspiration. This can be found in many ways. My favorite way is to hop on some of my favorite blogs and read. I read anything from fashion to blogging tips and recipes to get inspiration. It really doesn’t matter what you read, it will all give you inspiration. Some of my favorites are A Beautiful Mess, Thirteen Thoughts, A Girl Obsessed, Forever Amber, The Blog Market, and Clover and Dot.
Blogging is a creative thing. You have to constantly come up with ideas. So sometimes, if you’re feeling drained, it can help to refresh your creative genius. Go to your craft drawer and make a card for somebody. Bake cookies. Hey, go to the craft store! Just do something that is creative. You don’t even have to come up with the idea yourself, it can even be a craft kit!
I often feel drained when there is clutter everywhere. It can be oddly refreshing to take a day off and organize your desk, or your bedroom, or kitchen, or whatever. Hey, depending on what your blog is about, you can even post about it afterwards!
Do something fun.
Lastly, my suggestion is to do something fun. Maybe splurge a bit and buy that dress you’ve kept your eye on for three months. Go get a manicure at the nail salon. Go shopping with your friends. Or binge-watch one of your favorite shows on Netflix. Just take the time to hang out with your own self for a bit and come back refreshed.
Ready to jump back into blogging now? Yay! Here’s an idea. Did you know that it’s so much easier to come up with post ideas when you’re posting a lot, and regularly? Since your head is now flooded with post ideas, write them all down and start drafts. Work on them a little each day and schedule them. It works!
