Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving is always a big ordeal for our family. Every year, four generations gather – my great-grandparents, who are ninety, my grandparents, my aunt and uncle with all of their children, and my family. This year, we had some friends join us as well. We had a very large meal, with dessert of course, and enjoyed fellowship with each other.

Before we started eating, Junior played a hymn, “Oh God Beyond all Praising” and my momma and I did a violin & piano medley of “We Gather Together”, “Come, Ye Thankful People”, and “Now Thank We All Our God”.

The table was beautiful. It was ornamented with chestnuts from our property, clementine oranges, local beeswax candles, and bittersweet.

Our menus represent the rations that the pilgrims had that first winter. Each person was given five kernels of corn every day.
